Each day, 2 of us get to go to home visits with the community nurse and health care volunteer to provide regular checkups and do assessments. Sometimes, there is a few more people who join us because they are so excited to be with “foreigners” as they call us.

The Thai culture is very family orientated. The children and grandchildren take care of the elderly in their homes. That is something we do not always see in Canada. Another thing we noticed and admire is the independence and sense of pride the elders have. Even if they are in poor health they try so hard to do everything they can themselves. The community support is phenomenal. The care aide volunteers provide amazing care to these elders and do it out of love and respect. We admire the hospitality and generosity. They are forever offering water, pop, and food.
